Google Glass Isn't Dead

Google Chairman Eric Schmidt is still optimistic about the wearable’s future.

Google is adamant: The company's controversial Google Glass wearable initiative is a long term project and one to which it remains committed.

While some observers viewed Google's decision to end its Glass Explorer program earlier this year as an admission of failure, Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt says that's not the case. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Schmidt likened Glass to the company's self-driving car project, and called it a "fundamental platform" that is still in its nascent stages.

According to Schmidt, Google's decision to move Glass out of its Google X research lab and hand it off to Tony Fadell, head of the company's Nest connected home division, is a sign of its continued commitment to the facecomputer, and its plans to "make it ready for users."

Said Schmidt, "Google is about taking risks and there's nothing about adjusting Glass that suggests we're ending it."
