Twitter Places Analytics Highlights In Notifications Tab In New Experiment

“Popular Tweet,” “Noteworthy Mention,” and “Top Follow” appear for some in Twitter’s “Notifications” tab

Twitter's "Notifications" tab now features analytics highlights, at least for some users, on the web.

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed the changes are part of a new experiment, and sent along the following statement in an email: "We're experimenting with highlighting notable Tweets and activity in some verified users' notifications timelines. These are Tweets and activity they might otherwise miss due to the large volume of notifications these users tend to receive on a daily basis."

A handful of us in the BuzzFeed San Francisco office spotted these highlights this afternoon, with "Popular Tweet," "Noteworthy Mention," and "Top Follow" the three categories that showed up.

Could the highlights show up for all users eventually? Sure. Twitter likes to experiment before it rolls out products across the board. So think of this as an early look at something that may eventually land in your notifications tab.
